This review is from: Dalek Empire 1.2 - The Human Factor (Doctor Who S.) (Audio CD)
First released in 2001, this is the second in a Big Finish spin off series from the Doctor Who main range and, as the title indicates, centres around the Daleks. It's a single disc release, one episode about an hour long.
In this second episode the Dalek's grip on the galaxy starts to tighten. Suze and Karlendorf are now travelling the galaxy under the Daleks thumb, acting to bring hope to the Dalek's human slaves and increase their efficiency. But why are the Daleks so interested in human emotions? Have these Daleks really changed their bumps? Meanwhile, are Suze anbd Karlendorf really knuckling under meekly? Meanwhile the Palmeresque Albie and his pal Gordon Pellen are following the trail of Suze with many interesting adventures along the way.
This is a great release that nicely increases the drama of the series, as the stakes get higher and the moral questions deeper. Especially the question of Suze and the line between collaboration and survival. Sarah Mowat plays it beautifully to give us a character full of shades of grey and finely nuanced.
It's best listened to in conjunction with the other releases in the series, otherwise it will not make much sense. Apart from that though it is a cracking release that is right up to Big Finish's high standards. 5 stars.
