An original recreation of a national legend,
This review is from: Outlaw (Outlaw Chronicles) (Paperback)
This was an interesting and original account of the well known English Legend that is Robin Hood.
Graphic, dark and brutal are descriptions which are not usually ascribed to our romanticised hero who "robs from the rich to give to the poor". Yet this book works and is entrancing because it is written in such a fresh and unique manner.
All the characters from a Robin Hood story are present, but they have been given a new identity which is different from the traditional stereotypes most people have grown up with.
The key concepts and characters from the Robin Hood legend have been preserved, yet I had to remind myself on several occasions that this was a Robin Hood story.
For me, that was very appealing - I enjoyed the fresh perspective which has given new life to an ancient legend.
Orthodox traditionalists may not appreciate this new reworking as you will need to establish a new relationship with each character.
However, my advice for those who are flexible to change and have always loved this legend would be to read this book. I am sure you will enjoy this fresh and darker perspective.
On a final note, to any potential buyer, this is definitely an adult's and not a child's book.
