elbow are a strange band, I listened to this twice when it first came out, I didn't like it at all. My wife listened to it alot more on headphones and she kept telling me how this was her best album ever. I couldn't understand it, so I listened with headphones a few more times.
This album is a grower, the more you listen the more you will love it. Garveys lyrics hit parts of your soul you didn't think were there, it moves you to a point of pure emotion...you don't know what it is, but it makes you shiver down your spine. The band are exceptional together, creating songs that aren't like the mainstream, they have stayed in that skin too. They are a marvel and this album is a fantastic first step at hearing the true elbow, if you haven't heard any of their music before.
