I haven't forgotten this book since I read it a few years ago. A beautiful prose, contrasting the point of view of the child narrator with the harshness of her family life and the Beirut conflict (and presumably autobiographical). A novel high on my list of books to re-read, and one which lead me into the world of Mediterranean fiction beyond the countries we normally read about.
