Pleasant enough, but not what I wanted,

This review is from: Constellation of Genius: 1922: Modernism and All That Jazz (Kindle Edition)
The reviews suggested this was something new and brilliant; instead we get the same set of anecdotes chopped up into bite-sized pieces.
All very pleasant and in often entertaining, but irritatingly lacking in substance. Very well-researched and not a note out of place, but not very solid fare.

I know exactly what you mean - I ordered a ham and mustard sandwich - and this, while well researched with not a note out of place - was not a sandwich of any kind, it was a book.
