Space opera on a grand scale..,
This review is from: The Naked God (Hardcover)What a trip..the Naked God needs to be read after you have read or indeed reread the first two of the trilogy. This is true virtual reality stuff a story that transports you to another place and time so much so that sleeping does seem a bit of luxury for w hile. A tremendous effort, 6 and half years in the making I wonder how on earth he can follow that..
Of course despite the galactic reach, thriller driven plot and pace its not perfect. I suspect the book carried the author away too, and the finale does seem a little too neat and perfect much like a Speilberg movie actually, wonderfuly put together but a wee too much sugar at the end. Much like Iain.M. Banks has done, some of the best bits are the playful creation of an idealised life and PF Hamilton would just love to live and love as his hero, Joshua, close to Cricklade which UK readers will recognise as being very close to to certain area near Stamford. God knows at his age who would'nt!
Highly reccomended retreat from millennuim angst and hangover.
