3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 24 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: A Gathering Storm (Paperback)
As others have said, this was an OK read, but nothing more. I found the characters somewhat two-dimensional and, at the end, was unsure as to whether my sympathy lay with Angie or Beatrice. the "secret" was obvious from about page 4 so I'd rather hoped for a twist later on! Surely the story could have been constructed differently to make this a "reveal" at the end. Wouldn't especially recommend it.

Pawpaw says:
A pretty boring read but I must finish it for my book club.
It is filled with descriptive padding which I am not enjoying and
wish it would get into the story and plot if there is one. I dont
understand the problem that Tom had in researching his past as
it seems quite an easy project for Lucy. Ho hum and on I go to the end.

Sandy says:
I agree, it was blindingly obvious from the first chapter and it needn't have been. If the prologue had been written from, say, Lucy's point of view it would have been a much more interesting read with the secrets gradually revealed. I'd also have given Beatrice a second marriage so that she wasn't "Mrs Ashton". Then we would have been kept guessing as to the fate of Rafe.
