What a wonderful film.,
This review is from: Breezy (NTSC) (REGION 1) [DVD] [US Import] (DVD)
If, like me, you're tired of the blood and gore so beloved of today's film makers, buy this film and get ready for an immense treat.
It is a story about the relationship which develops between a reluctant middle aged professional man, played by William Holden, and a young 'hippie' girl who won't take no for an answer. It is perfectly cast and totally absorbing. The humour in the script is conveyed with great skill by both leads (William Holden was a truly great actor) and the dialogue flows with an effortlessness which is rare in modern cinema.
Direction is by Clint Eastwood, who started with 'Play Misty For Me' and then just kept on getting better. The part of Breezy was originally destined for Sondra Locke, Eastwood's then partner, but Kay Lenz was brought in at the last minute. And that my friends was a stroke of pure genius. I am amazed that she never made more of an impact in the world of film if her performance here is anything to go by. There is real chemistry going on here between Holden and Lenz and if I didn't know they were just acting........
This is one of a small group of films, in a large collection, which I pull out regularly and watch again and again. What a pity I cannot give it six stars!
