This review is from: Gone Girl (Paperback)
I can't imagine why this book got rave reviews. The two main protagonists are deeply unpleasant and there is no way a reader can empathise with their so-called predicaments. In fact there isn't one nice character in the whole novel, which makes me think Gillian Flynn has a very warped idea of humanity. Much of the language is disgusting and I am horrified to learn the author is working on a screenplay for a film. The writing style is poor with too many Americanisms for my taste and calling the sister Go made for confusing syntax at times. I finished the book, as I kept hoping for a clever twist, but there was simply more of the same and I wish I had never started it. Rarely has a book left such a sour taste.
