The first thing that strikes you is the character. Plenty of it. Each new tile created introduces itself in a coll way that avoids being twee. The music too that accompanies it all is modern and interesting.
At first it feels you're just pushing tiles around, at the mercy of what the game throws at you. Then you notice the next time marker and start to use that to help determine your next move. In this way you're able to stave off the "no more moves" equivalent phrase that little bit longer. You're still pretty much at the mercy of a little luck, but with increased experience of how to line disparate pairs up, you end up with far fewer unnecessary movements bringing more tiles onto the board.
