Good but dull,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Most Secret War (Penguin World War II Collection) (Paperback)
I ordered this because I recall seeing RV Jones on a TV series called "Most Secret War" and because I recently met someone who knew him well.
It is a good book, but unfortunately is not great. Its subject is its subtitle "British Scientific Intelligence 1939-1945").
Sadly it should have been called "What I did in the war and who I wrote to and talked to".
Too much of the book is about the personal reminiscences of RV Jones, who he met and what he said and wrote and what they said and wrote,
The style improves when he gets down to the nitty gritty of things (like the Auderville Freyas - a german Radar) but it is still too tedious.
It is a shame because all of the stories are ripping yarns with great detail and illustrations but that does not come across.
