This review is from: Dark Creations: Gabriel Rising (Part 1) (Kindle Edition)
The thoroughly unpleasant Dr Franklin Terzini thinks himself the saviour of mankind with the genetic engineering he has accomplished. He has 2 creations, yet he views only one of them as truly exceptional. His first creation Eugene has DNA spliced with a lion, yet his second Gabriel is incredibly human and beautiful looking. Both young men have superior strength, agility and intelligence, and both supposedly have been created to feel no emotion; however Dr Terzini failed.

Unknown to Terzini, Eugene harbours great rage and loves to carry out the murders his creator orders. Due to a situation with the Russian mafia, Terzini opts to return to the States. He leaves Eugene to mop up the mess and takes Gabriel with him. His plan is to study Gabriel and watch him integrate into human society before revealing what he is. He bears no emotional ties to Gabriel and views him only as an experiment; a perfect specimen until Gabriel meets a girl named Melissa.

Joining high school Gabriel is bewildered but finds himself drawn to one particular person; Melissa. She isn't one of the cool kids, but her association with the mouth-watering Gabriel has students stopping and striking up conversations with her.

I know that Melissa is a teenager, but she acts incredibly stupid at times and as a result finds herself in a dangerous situation before Gabriel swoops in to save the day. The plot maintains a steady pace, but there are moments of violence surrounding Eugene and also a particular scene involving Melissa. This author did create believable characters; I absolutely loathed Terzini and hope he meets a grizzly end. Melissa is a somewhat wishwashy heroine; I much preferred her feisty friend Alexandra and wish she'd played a larger role. Her character completely overwhelmed Melissa in all the scenes she appeared in, and I rather hoped that Gabriel would be drawn to her rather than Melissa.
