This review is from: Adventure Island: The Mystery of the Whistling Caves (Paperback)
I have a (just) 9 year old daughter and a 7.5 year old son, both of whom are massive Enid Blyton fans and who love adventure stories with a passion. They have both exhausted all the Enid Blyton books out there so when I saw these advertised as being Blyton-esque I bought the first two. I have to say that I personally was rather underwhelmed by the first two; they seemed very derivative and not particularly exciting - plus they seemed to be written by someone trying to be very 2012 but not quite managing it. My daughter read the first one and refused to read the second because she said she just didn't think it was very good. However my son is engrossed and is begging me to buy the rest of the series - he reports that they are very exciting and he is loving the fact that there is more than one adventure thread in each book.
Edited to add: I have now bought all 10 of this series (so far). I have read them all, as has my son and now my daughter aswell. I have to say that they get better and better. Both my kids were engrossed by book 4 and my daughter found them very funny aswell as exciting. I think the author writes very well and would highly recommend the series!
