This review is from: Effective Software Engineering: A guide to building successful software products (Paperback)
First of all, "Effective Software Engineering" can be a useful tool, for both experienced professionals and recent graduates. As many other books focused on the software development industry practices, we are presented a clear set of guidelines to improve the quality of the product we're working on.
However, what makes this book different is that its focus goes beyond the typical software development project point-of-view. Mr. Svart clearly believes that the product quality should be measured not only by what's delivered in the end of the development stage, but also on how it will evolve in the subsequent life-cycle stages. This is something a lot of developers I know should care about, being more product-minded and less project-minded.
You will find your time well spent reading this book. In the least it will make you rethink what defines a good product. Most likely it will help to deliver better products.
