Don Cherry's exhilarating and emotional avant garde classic from 1965.,
This review is from: Complete Communion (Audio CD)
This was Don Cherry's first album as leader after his departure from the legendary Ornette Coleman Quartet. 'Complete Communion' was recorded on Christmas Eve, 1965 and consists of two continuous suites covering a wide range of moods played by an explosive and empathetic quartet of Don Cherry(cornet), Gato Barbieri(tenor sax), Henry Grimes(bass) & Ed Blackwell(drums).
The dynamic interplay in the quartet is combined with strong and impassioned solos especially from the fiery Argentinian tenorist Barbieri.
This exhilarating and emotional music is full of life & humanity and 'Complete Communion' is an overlooked classic of '60s avant garde jazz.
