More frustration than fun!,
This review is from: Call of Duty: Black Ops II [Standard edition] (PS3) (Video Game)
My early expectations were high enough to pre-order this game which is a first for me.
The early trailers promised much, from the futuristic setting to the future tech weapons with see through wall scopes,
The truth is it hasn't evolved much at all. It has a lot of the same problems that have been in previous COD's and some new ones. Some of these were pretty unforgivable.
The Pick 10 system for class set ups. Its a versatile and much needed improvement so your not
lumbered with weapons/attachments you wont use.
The scorestreaks seem like an improvement, being based on score accumulation rather than successive kills.
The single player campaign was fun to a point. Graphically pleasing and as fun as previous COD games to a point. I was not personally a big fan of mixing it up with some type of God game mode where you are moving your troops around like some kind of strategic board game.
Frequent, inconsistent lag. Sometimes it feels like you being killed instantly by others with the kill cam not showing shots you know you fired. Other times it works in your favour. Either way its not fair and doesn't allow for a level playing field.
Why am I being put in game that is 5 mins+ in and I have no chance of finishing anywhere other than last? Sometimes joining a game for a matter of seconds before its finished.
The infuriating host migration. How many game have just ended abruptly because someone else has rage quitted or left. How hard is it to sort this out!!! Pull your finger out Treyarch.
Early weapons are often as powerful as those unlocked many levels higher. Where is the incentive to change.
Zombies mode is far inferior to Black ops. Fair play for trying to add new elements such as a campaign mode but its not quite what I had in mind. The levels are not big enough, not as much fun as Black ops and too dark. And what's with the annoying, distracting screen effect when going over flames?
Campers. I know its some peoples game style but I wish there were game modes where this could be eliminated like maybe people starting to appear on the map if remaining stationary for a period of time.
Same old game modes. There are a lot of games modes but there is nothing really that has not been in previous versions. Lets have a bit more ambition, imagination and creative alternative.
Why is it so hard to get free for all games set up with your mates? I know it dates back to Modern Warfare 2 when there was a cheating epidemic but we are not all cheats! Must be way to stop the cheats without hurting the gameplay for others.
If only there was a league system for free for all as there are in team matches but that's just personal preference.
All thing considered its a disappointment. By what really is the incentive to change things around for Activision. COD games are a money making machine and millions will by buy them regardless. I'm guilty of it too but not again until there is some true evolution and innovation.

To respond to your comment about campers there has been something done to stop campers, the ghost perk does allow players to be concealed but they have to be moving which stops them from staying in one spot. But to be fair there isn't a way to stop people from chilling in one spot because that's just how they play.

Thanks for the response. To be fair my rant about Campers was really just an after thought. My main gripe was the server issues & host migration which ruined the game for me.
Like you said Camping is just a playing style that some people choose. Frustrating but probably unavoidable.

I have to say though for me personally i would favour the idea of early unlocked weapons being as powerful as later unlocked.
For many new players having to learn the maps where the existing community is already pretty well versed can be frustrating. Couple that with ideal perks not available at start (im not sure of BO2 but in MW2 you basically trod water until you got SOH Pro) Having weapons that also act as peashooters would just make this even more of a mountain to climb.
I get what you mean though about incentive to change.
Let's be honest though most experienced cod players will pretty much be able to play with any weapon, short of a few infamously bad examples lol
