I'm a fan of Christopher Moore. He has a real knack for taking something completely random and turning it into something even more random! I'm not familiar with the King Lear tale that this story is a parody of, so I probably missed most of the subtle humour, but it also meant that the story was fresh and interesting because I didn't know where it was heading.
The strength of Fool though, comes from Moore's incredible talent for humour. Most of the gags are completely unsubtle and that is what holds much of the appeal. If you're looking for high brow humour this won't be your thing. If you like silly and absurd stuff then Fool will be right up your street.
