Not the best of the Carte Noire Nespresso coffees,
This review is from: Carte Noire Espresso No 9 Intense 10 Coffee Capsules 53 g (Pack of 8) (Grocery)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Carte Noire's Espresso No. 9 Intense is the third of the Carte Noire Nespresso line I've tried, the others being No. 5 Delicat and No. 7 Aromatique. It comes in the same over-the-top packaging as the others - 8 boxes of 10 pods, each pod individually wrapped in plastic, which does, at least, preserve the taste of the coffee, if doing little for the environment.
No. 9 Intense gives off a fair aroma, both when first unwrapped and when put through the Nespresso machine, but not in the same league as the other two Carte Noire coffees. As with No. 5 and No. 7, it produces a really good crema, especially with a little milk added.
Where No. 9 Intense falls down is in the taste, as it is, in my opinion, the least palatable of the three. It lacks the citric sharpness of No. 5 and the well-rounded flavour of No. 7, tasting like a fairly bland, `store's own', non-brand coffee. I might be able to forgive this if it gave a bold coffee hit, as its name suggests, but it lacks any kind of punch, in fact I'd say that it actually tastes a little weaker than the others.
If you're in the mood for a Nespresso coffee without the extortionate Nespresso pricing, Carte Noire does produce some good coffees, but No. 9 Intense isn't it. No. 5 Delicat and No. 7 Aromatique aren't perfect, but they are better than this and they are what I would choose if I was out to buy some Carte Noire Nespresso pods.
