This review is from: A Treasure (Audio CD)I happen to like this album; I happen to like Old Ways.
Geffen attempted to sue Neil Young, at this time, for making music that was "Unrepresentative of Neil Young". Geffen inflicted Double Fantasy on us - Yoko vocals included, the worst John Lennon album ever ! The fact remains that Neil Young has always had a country-esque tinge to him.
Consider this: Buffalo Springfield, of whom he was a member, recorded Kind Woman, a country ballad. The Emperor of Wyoming on Neil's first solo album is a country instrumental. Everybody Knows That This is Nowhere is a country tune: Oh Lonesome Me was written by Don Gibson, a country singer, yet it appears as a cover on After The Gold Rush.
Additionally, recording with Rusty Kershaw on the On The Beach album, singing Star of Bethlehem with Emmylou Harris, and you say country is not representative of Neil Young.
Dare I add: Willie Nelson covered Heart Of Gold and Johnny Cash Pocahontas.
Neil is country, Neil is rock, fact is Neil is Neil.
