Whole greater than the sum of its parts,
This review is from: Mass Effect (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
Mass effect is not as fun as Jade Empire, and the combat isn't as good as Bioshock, and it's not as intelligent (or ethically interesting) as Deus Ex, but it comes pretty close to being all 3 of these things.
The main negative comment I'd make is that the optional assignments are significantly less well designed than the main missions. To get the best of this game, I would resist the temptation to do all the assignments available, and to stick mainly to the main missions. Obviously, this means the game will be shorter etc. but sometimes less is more.
Also, the class you pick will change the way you play the game, so you can always play it again, and do different assignments the second time. Doing them all just detracts from the momentum and the story, in my opinion anyway.
Although there are loads of great games out now, I'll probably play this again (as a different class) before I move onto the orange box, stranglehold or naruto (or bioshock again).
