Too many re-recordings !,

As a fan of Andy's since 1972 when I first saw Planxty in concert I always await his new releases with high expectations. I hardly need say more than that he is a living legend on the Irish folk scene and is held in the same esteem in many other quarters. However I feel let down by his latest CD because he has only come up with 5 new songs - some of these are about obscure events in Australia which don't engage my interest at all.The CD also contains a quite ordinary rendition of an old chestnut "Will you Come to the Bower" which is so routine I don't know why he bothered.
Instrumental work is excellent throughout and Andy is helped out in fine style by his Mozaik band-mate Rens van der Zaim on a variety of instruments. Irvine has already recorded 5 of these songs with previous bands or solo and with identical arrangements. One or two revisits per record might be acceptable but this shows little respect for his long-time fans. Total newcomers will find much to enjoy here but if you have been collecting Planxty/Patrick Street/Mozaik and his solo releases then you don't need this !
