Worker ants uprise...u have nothing to lose but your minds!,
This review is from: Little Johnny From The Hospital (Audio CD)
Dear God, what have I bought? Well, the short answer is 'Breakbeat Genius.' The best way to describe this album is...well...weird. But in a good way - like a dog on a treadmill. Its music Jim, but not as we know it....
Starting off with 'Comp', with its weird beats and strange dialling tones, Little Johnny grabs you by the throat and absolutely will not let go until your mind is as infected as his is. 'Suzie pulled a gun' is mental stuff - freaky, off-kilter beats and snatched samples of a young girl being raped by her fathers friend. This strange, nightmarish mesh continues over 'Friend vs Friend' and 'Lenolium' (to my mind, the worst track on the album - but still eons ahead of the beats found on many rap albums, which shows you how far El-P & Mr Len have pushed the boundaries of what hiphop and breakbeats are). For me, the album really picks up speed around 'Worker Needed' and from there your ears are dragged along for the ride. Electro stomping, mind confusing, bass heavy beats - I have the biggest grin on my face right now and it doesn't want to come off!! The best tracks on this LP are 'Giga Pet' and 'Worker Ant Uprise', whilst 'Happy Happy Joy Kill' is a fitting climax to an album that can easily be described as an urban horror movie for the ears.
For those considering purchasing this musical madness, 2 words of advice - 1: THIS IS INSTRUMENTAL ONLY!! That means no lyrics. And 2: Don't look too closely at the album artwork. Sick, sick boys.......
