Not O'Brian, but a cut above the rest,
This review is from: Gentleman Captain (Paperback)
This book was recommended to me a great historian, and he was dead correct. A fine read, with strong characterizations that become more surefooted as the complex and gripping storyline proceeds. Mr. Davies can write, and even if he is not here the stylist that Patrick O'Brian was or perhaps the seaman that Richard Woodman is, the series promises to be both more literate and more entertaining than the run of maritime historical fiction.
