stunning masterpiece of determination,
This review is from: Boldness Be My Friend (True Stories from World War II) (Paperback)
Without doubt one of the best written works to have been published on this subject. A fascinating first-hand description of war-torn occupied Europe. Being shot down; evading capture; POW camp; interrogation; three escapes; gestapo torture - no novel could equal Pape's extraordinary tale of survival.
I picked up a copy of this biography simply because, (like my late uncle Jack), Pape was a Yorkshire lad, and an RAF navigator. I began to read the book thinking it would be yet another ego trip by some unemployed former serviceman, but i was unable to put it down. I am gutted now it is finished and his story has been told.
