mi casa, su casa...,
This review is from: Oxford Take Off in Spanish (Paperback with CDs) (CD-ROM)
I am an absolute beginner when it comes to Spanish. After years of 'one day I will learn...' I found this little package (in the half price sale at a famous high street retailer) and became inspired to make an effort.
If like me, you are not very good with languages, but are willing to put the effort in then this is a brilliant introduction. Building slowly from basic greetings, you find yourself able to order drinks, ask where the hotel is and follow simple directions very quickly.
There is no quick fix; making time and putting in the effort is paramount to how much you will get out of this. The book recommends half an hour, 3 or 4 days a week. I found it enjoyable and as the book gets deeper into the structure of the language I took my time and went over where I needed to stregnthen.
There are 4 CDs which take you through the book. The book is split into 14 sections and there are various exercises within each unit. After each section there is a test to gauge how you have done. I take my book to work and run through a previous section or two for revision.
Remember though, its a bit of fun and try to enjoy it. Somedays it seems that it doesn't make sense, the next day its tripping off your tongue like a native!!
Also included is a 5th CD that can be played in the car which is good for refresher purposes and a 'travel dictionary/phrasebook'. Compared to other products out there, this is great value for money and worth a dabble to see if you'll enjoy learning a new language.
