"A mysterious but ultimately satisfying tale...",

This review is from: Chocolat (Paperback)
I bought the book on impulse not knowing anything about the story and I was drawn in from the first page! Joanne Harris' character descriptions are so 3-dimensional; it's easy to forget both they and Lansquenet-sous-Tannes are fictional.
The mysterious Vianne Rocher's arrival in the backwater French village and her subsequent conflict with Father Reynaud is cleverly interwoven with the shadowy background of both characters. The twist in the tale of Vianne's origins took me by surprise and although I felt the book ended rather abruptly, it was ultimately a satisfying read.
