Hiding in the Shadows,
This review is from: Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
Firstly, just to let you know. I am not a a massive fan of the turn based strategy genre. I have played advance wars on the DS but never could really get into to it. I know people loved those games but I found the difficulty curve and design just wasn't for me. The only other turn based strategy games I have played were the Ufo / Xcom enemy unknown games, which I did love. Good job then that this game is made but the same folks behind that series then.
Ghost Recon Shadow Wars is a fantastic game. It shares nothing in common with its older brothers on the Home consoles, other than its name. But don't let you worry you. This game is fantastic game and without the Ghost Recon title it would have still been fantastic.
Gameplay: Game is very easy to pick up and play. The controls are easy, and the first missions show you how everything works, i.e movement/firing spaces, line of sight and so on. The missions are varied enough, and the characters you control all act differently. You have an assault soldier, a heavy gunner, a medic, a sniper, a engineer and a stealth soldier. All are usefull against different targets, and you'll have to use this to survive, especially when heavily outnumbered.
The graphics: Ok they aren't the best I have seen on the 3DS so far but all in all they are very good and done well. The 3D effect is very nice, with telegraph poles and plumes of smoke appearing as coming out of the screen. The character design is good and everything has a near future look to it, making it all fit nicely together.
The sound: Again very impressive. Great gun fire effects, massive booms for the explosions and a great atmospheric soundtrack. Only problem with the sound is no speech. The 3DS can hold and store more information than the DS so there is no excuse for no speech at all.
Lifespan: The Main campaign offers hours of fun and tactical play, with extra skirmish and multi-player levels being unlocked as you progress through the different difficulty settings. This game is packed full of hours of varied and actioned packed play and has a real go back for just one more go appeal.
Overview. If you are a turn based strategy fan buy this game, its one of the best in the genre. If you aren't still buy it. Anyone should be able to pick this up and play at least past the first few levels. After that you will be hooked and it may take all your resolve to put it down again.
A++++ of a game.
