Excellent place to start for beginners,
This review is from: Guided Meditations: For Calmness,Awareness & Love (Audio CD)
This is a great place to start if you are thinking of starting and re-starting meditation - it sets out the three main meditation practices of the Buddhist tradition and does so simply and in a well balanced way.
All you get is a guided voice, which goes through the stages clearly - and that is about it. No new age excess, no music, as - in my opinion - it should be. There is also no specific 'Buddhist' additionals, so someone from any or no religious tradition can feel comfortable with this CD.
For those with more experience, you may find the balance of this recording has a little too much speech (particularly on the mindfulness recording, where you get guidence about every four breaths), and you will want to graduate with a more light touch recording to allow you to fully concentrate on the breath without external input.
So worth combining this with a non guided companion for the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana - just some recorded bells or other markers over a meditation period of 20, 30 or 40 minutes. There are a few free downloads of these on the internet which are easy to track down (from of FWBO New York site for example).
