Fast paced action adventure,
This review is from: Fenrir (Paperback)
I might never have chosen this book to read if it hadn't been for FantasyCon. Me and a couple of friends are going and we decided that we'd try to read one story of each of the authors attending (we failed btw). That's how I chose Fenrir from M.D. Lachlan and I was happily surprised. For me it's the best book I've read so far this year.
It starts off introducing the characters in a city (Paris) under siege and you're immediately in the middle of the story being sucked in further every page. The action get's underway quickly and the pace is fast, characters split up have their own little adventures and come together and though usually this tends to make me lose my way and forget who's who, it doesn't in this story. Characters are believable and the historic background is never dull or mundane.
The writing is superb and you can tell there's been a lot of research done to get the details right. I loved the attention to detail like the names of pieces of clothing I'd never heard of (I will admit to not being a native English speaker so that could just be me) but it was always clear what was meant. It's amazing to me how M.D. Lachlan get's into each characters head, sees their background and where they come from and let's them speak, think and act how I expect they would.
If you're looking for an action packed adventure that makes you want to read more (and luckily there is more) then this is definitely the book to read. I haven't read the first book 'Wolfsangel' and I had no trouble following this book. It can be read on its own and you come away with a complete story. I will definitely be looking for more books by M.D. Lachlan.
