Good quality sound but limited life earpads and cable,
This review is from: Beyerdynamic DT 231 Headphone - Closed Back design (Electronics)
I've bought two pairs of these now. Really like the sound quality and they are comfortable but in both cases the padding in the earpads collapsed after a couple of years and in one case cable became inoperative after getting caught in chair wheel. Now looking at alternatives. But sound quality is really good while they last.

Replacement earpads for this product cost more than half the new unit price and probably wouldn't last longer than originals. Materials should be fit for purpose and if Beyers engineers cant find a better padding material than this they aren't trying hard enough.

Or else, with better padding DT231 would cost more than 35 quids. That's the name of the game called "capitalism" I guess...
Nevertheless, at www-hifiheadphones-co-uk I found the EDT131 earpads that cost around 9 pounds, and are intended to the almost identical DT131 model. The pads are flat, the soundstage is a bit narrower and the bass is a bit weaker. But just a bit. The sound remains clear.
Besides the lower cost of these EDT131 earpads, they are less likely to collapse, and more likely easy to repair. Especially if you are handy with mending old female stockings. ;-)
