This is the most delicious fantasy read I've experienced in years. It's comparable to Robert Jordan's `Wheel of Time' saga and David Edding's `The Belgariad', only juicier, slightly more adult content on the odd occasion. I simply couldn't put it down unless forced to do so, then I couldn't wait to pick it up again. Unfortunately this meant I finished it fairly quickly and am now suffering from withdrawal symptoms!
Songs Of The Earth captivated me from the very first page, following the adventures and mishaps of Gair and his unwanted song. The battles between good and evil, evil thrashes good to within an inch of it's life, will good survive and heal in time to stop evil and if not....what will happen to all the characters, in fact, what will happen to everyone?
There's magic, religion versus faith, very different beliefs! Family and friends, enemies and opposites, battles, love, unrequited love, journeys of the physical, emotional and knowledgeable, death, discipline and destruction. Truly, this story has everything - except chocolate.
Elspeth Cooper has written with a passion and understanding few can match and I absolutely am a fan. Can't wait for `Trinity Moon' to come out to continue the adventure.
Congratulation Elspeth, keep up the superb work and thanks for entertaining me with a fantasy I long to continue.
