The C S Lewis Bible,
This review is from: C. S. Lewis Bible: New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) (Bible Nrsv) (Hardcover)
It was a pleasure to read through many of the entries of C S Lewis as one read the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. Possibly, the NRSV is the most accurate version available today.
If the reader is a fan of C S Lewis, believed to be the greatest Christian thinker of the 20th century, then this publication will be enjoyed immensely. There are many hundreds of quotations inserted into the pages and it is done generally appropriately. Quotations are taken from all his books and the many letters he wrote to others during his life-time. He shows exceptional insight into the working of the mind in relation to Christ.
One minor criticism was that the reading quote was made to fit the text and it does not always totally relate to the passage of scripture. I suppose it could be said, how could it when the author was often writing on another subject with only a fleeting reference to the text?
There is an index of the books used in this publication and then an index by source. Finally, there is an index by scripture reference in which every Book of the bible is covered. To give but two examples; the Book of Genesis contains twenty four CS Lewis references and even Leviticus contains ten. The New Testament Books have wide coverage. There is also a useful general concordance.
Overall, the compilers have done a great service in preserving this philosopher's unique turn of thought on Christian matters and I am sure will be used for years to come either for private study or sermon preparation.
