Wow! What can I say about the album that speaks for itself when you hear it. Amazing is a word that enters my mind: Glorious is another.
I bought the album after Date with the Night, and Maps were both played on Jools Holland; I really didn't know what to expect. I just sat back and listened in contented bliss as the punk-goth screams of Karen-O and the excellent instrumental styles of Nick Zinner and Brian Chase whirled into my ears. Like the white Stripes, the band suffers no loss of fullness with the absence of more band members - it serves instead to increase their unique sound. It is one of the only albums, of recent years, that I can just sit back and listen to without needing to worry about irritatingly flicking through boring songs; Date with the Night also provides the best pointed-finger scanning since Go Greased Lightning (apparently).
Buy this album and be forever greatful to the mellifluous Karen-O for letting you listen to it.
