Biggest disapointment of my life,
This review is from: Beastly [DVD] (DVD)
I've said it before, but this movie is not for fans of the book. Firstly, with today's CGI technology, how hard could it have been to make him an actual beast instead of some bald guy with face tattoos? Completely defeats the object of his being hidden away, and also makes it ridiculous that 'Lindy' didn't recognise him. I put Lindy in inverted commas because even though that is the role Vanessa Hudgens was cast as, she pretty much just acted the same way she has in every film she's ever been in, transforming Lindy from the sweet, headstrong literary lover into an annoying, whiny teenager who's only passion is chewy sweets. Alex Pettifer plays Kyle the same throughout the movie, eliminating the transformation from rich, shallow bully into kind, selfless hero. And do you remember reading the book and strongly believing that, despite their age, Kyle/Adrian and Lindy had a true love that could really last? Well, the film waves that goodbye, and instead gives us a teen romance with very little depth that is doomed to fail in the end. Still not put off? I'll end with saying that the script seems to completely disregard the novel, and the only similarities between the two are the title and some of the names. That's right; some of them.
