Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Savile Row: The Master Tailors of British Bespoke (Hardcover)
Having already known that James was the self-styled guardian of all things Savile Row (and pretty much The Chap magazine made flesh) I had no doubt that this project was going to be a production of the very highest quality - and it is very, very good indeed.
First off, it's huge. You almost need your own atelier in which to open the damn thing, but no matter - the images are lavish, the histories detailed and the love, care and just sheer exuberant execution of this book are a joy to behold. Indeed, it's a Savile Row suit fashioned in paper. I can't quite accept it's cost as little to purchase as it has - books of this quality would normally command a much higher figure.
I won't witter on about the content - any right-thinking fellow will know all aspects of bespoke to be thoroughly covered - and indeed they are (tailors, profiles, hollywood..)
With the current renewed focus on the bespoke, hand-made and Britishness in origin, Savile Row should really be at the forefront of the drive for home-grown absolutely top-end manufacturing, if it ever becomes thus, they'll have James Sherwood to thank for it. I await 'The Perfect Gentleman' with anticipation.
