A call to arms!,

This review is from: Arthur Of The Britons (Audio CD)
A wonderfully rousing soundtrack to this fondly remembered, but largely forgotten series, which first gave us a King Arthur stripped bare of the mythology and knights in armour. Filmed at a time when production studios took calculated risks and didn't dumb down, the show's music complimented the historical period with an appropriate call to arms for skirmishes, poignant and pensive moments, romance and intrigue. Most people seemed to remember the rousing theme music by Bernstein reproduced here (a little too "Rawhide" for me) but in fact it was the incidental scoring that really made the show. Some lovely melodic interludes, broken only by the urgent call of the celtic horns.
Bravo Mr Lewis for producing this labour of love! The product is complimented by a lovely, detailed booklet, with original photos and typeface intact. Surely the Holy Grail for Arthur fans, this series gave us the leather and furs reality of Dark Age Britain with moral lessons and a thoughtful, strong, yet flawed young leader. A real collector's item!
