This review is from: Jessi-cat: The cat that unlocked a boy's heart (Hardcover)
'Jessi-Cat: the cat that unlocked a boy's heart' tells the incredible, heart-warming and true story of a beautiful Birman that changes the life of a young boy. Being the owner of a blue-point Birman myself, I was intrigued when I first heard this remarkable story on BBC's Breakfast last year and I couldn't wait to read the book. Written by Lorcan's mother, Jayne, this story provides an excellent insight into Selective Mutism (and Asperger's Syndrome) and the experience of one family who, thanks to the help of their pet cat, learn to overcome it.
As well as being full of little anecdotes from their family life with Jess, the book also catalogues Jayne's journey to understanding the conditions which befall her youngest son and her fight to gain more support in the educational system and local community for him and for other parents of autistic children.
The hardback book has a lovely photo on the front cover of Lorcan, the cheeky chap, holding the gorgeous Jessi-Cat (as the picture shows). I also loved the action shots of the delightful duo inside.
I would strongly recommend this book to cat lovers, health and educational professionals, parents of children with Selective Mutism or autism, and to anyone else that wants to learn more about these conditions.
