Like a number of other reviewers I would agree that this book doesn't offer anything particularly new in the world of crime novels. A serial killer is on the loose and a cop with plenty of other baggage to ponder is on their trail.
That said, it's an entertaining read.
It's inherently plausible and requires little suspension of disbelief whilst reading and whilst it does perhaps push the procedural nature of things at the expense of genuine tension at times there is also a great sense of character which places you firmly behind Danny Beckett, the detective, and his police partner, Jen Tanaka. For their faults, the duo are likeable and well drawn characters.
Some may see the conclusions coming from a while back but there's only a minor feeling of waiting for the characters to catch up and all in all this is a good effort than fans of the crime/killer genre will enjoy. I'd certainly appreciate the chance to read more of Danny Becket's exploits.
