Genuine country, genuine artist...and genuine quality.,
This review is from: Balls (Audio CD)Elizabeth Cook has a twang in her voice which will probably stop her crossing over into country pop, and that is our gain. She sings delightfully, writes much of her own material, and is a lovely performer live.
On this disc she is a revelation, the 12 songs fit together and complement each other, whilst the session musicians play beautifully and Rodney Crowell produces flawlessly. Even Nanci Griffith turns up to sing harmony on Down Girl.
Balls is the title track, and it is good, but if any song breaks through it will be Always Tomorrow which Elizabeth sings with real feeling.
This is a classy album, and deserves to sell in shedloads, whether it will depends on people taking a chance on a largely unknown artist. Years ago, I took a chance on buying my first Emmylou Harris and later, a Nanci Griffith album caught my attention.
Believe me, she is that good.
