When I first started reading this book I felt it had a lot of promise - the pace at which events unfolded made for a spellbinding first few chapters. However, as I progressed through it, I just felt more and more that it wasn't really heading in any particular direction. I enjoyed it as the language is nice and makes for easy reading, but I can't help feeling this book doesn't really make any significant points or have any great deep meaning to it. It's just a story of a collection of often fairly unrealistic events. In particular I object to how some of hugely significant incidents in the book are treated by the characters involved as almost minir occurrences - I just found that all a bit unconvincing. All in all, I'd say I got some enjoyment out of reading the book, but I finished it feeling somewhat unfulfilled.
