"a commander whose grip of high strategy was more often than not found sadly wanting" I couldn't agree less with this statement, Monty's grasp of strategy enabled the British Army to survive WW2 in tact; if he had behaved like Patton and others, there would have been no British Army left..and many of us would not be here. A prickly character he may have been but he understood the brief given to him by Churchill and executed it brilliantly. Whilst the book is rubbish it doesn't follow that the same can be said of its hero.
