Better then I expected.,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Standard Edition (PS3) (Video Game)
Where should i start, after being let down by final fantasy xiii, i was a little put off from purchasing this game, it's not that final fantasy xiii was a bad game, it was just to linear for what I would expect of an RPG, next to no mini games, and very little in the way of controlling the customization of your characters abilities.
I didn't purchase final fantasy xiii-2 straight away due to these problems with the first, I recently took the plunge and purchased a copy and I was very pleasently suprised.
From the start off you have pretty much full control of the way your 2 human characters level the crystarium (for those that have not played final fantasy xiii, this is your way of leveling your characters jobs), there is no waiting till you have reached a certain part of the game before you can get certain skills, everything is open for the characters 1st 3 jobs from the beginning of the game, and the other jobs open pretty quickly; it is then your choice as to how you level the charcters.
The story is quite open in the way you can tackle certain things; meaning things don't have to be done in any particular order, and the linearity of the first game has gone and there are a lot of sidequests which help to add to the longevity of the game, there are also puzzles a casino and a collessium to visit in the game have various minigames available to start with, and the casino games and collesium combatents have been expanded via DLC.
The monsters (which are the 3rd party member) also provide a very fun bit of customization to your party, as you level the monsters, they gain abilities, you can then fuse this monster with another monster you have leveled, carrying abilities over from one creature to the next giving you a lot of freedom in the abilities you give your preferred monsters
Overall I have enjoyed this game a great deal and it feels much more of a complete game in regards of things to do compared to the first, and at the price it now retails at (£12) its great value for money.
If you enjoyed the visuals, charcters, story and paradigm battle system of the 1st final fantasy xiii game but thought it was just lacking that little something then you will probably enjoy this game, and at £12 (current amazon price) its an absolute bargain.
