An experiment between two worlds??,
This review is from: Head First (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful fun album. It has the quality songwriting of Goldfrapp but it has a very distinct 80s vibe throughout much of the album. It is done in a very knowing way which seems to put one foot in the camp of 80s kitsch and the other through tracks like 'Hunt' very much in the present. For my money it's a success and its an interesting cross between homage and new ground. Some of the early songs wouldn't be out of place in a cheesy 80s movie (Karate Kid 8 - The Unwanted Sequel??) but it is done so well with a knowing smile that it works.
I generally hate nightclubs (I'm a middle-aged rock dude!) but if I was in one, I'd want non-stop Goldfrapp! They seem to adopt a new identity every album yet have a constant quality as well - as another reviewer pointed out, a Bowie-esque trait and one that makes for good music.
