A profound social/psychoanalytic analysis of disability,
By A Customer
This review is from: Disability: Controversial Debates and Psychosocial Perspectives (Paperback)This is quite the most profound and interesting book I have read on the subject. It is sophisticated and groundbreaking, whilst remaining clear and easy to read.
There is almost nothing within the psychological and psychoanalytic literature that has such an understanding of the politics of disability. Most books I've read look at just politics or experience, not both.
As a counsellor in the field of disability, I find myself returning to this book again and again. It has challenged a lot of my assumptions about social exclusion, stigma and disability. If you work in the field, or are in any way interested in these issues, buy this book.
