I am working my way through all of Emily Barr's novels, but have started with the later ones first and I think this is why I found this one to be weaker, with one dimensional characters and flimsy story lines, compared to her more recent novels. I still enjoyed reading it though, and that is why I have given it 3 stars. It was an easy, light read, but I agree with the other reviewers in that the dialogue was often clunky and unbelievable. Definitely not as good as The Sleeper or The First Wife but still readable nonetheless, if you like this author's style and premise.
