5.0 out of 5 stars OTG cable, 27 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: USB A 2.0 female to Micro USB B male Cable Adapter (Electronics)
Very fast delivery, good quality. Works very well with my Kindle Fire WITH CUSTOM ROM and Kingston small sized 8GB flash. Waiting for bluetooth drivers for custom jelly bean roms to further expand this cable usage.

Hi, Have just started looking into using a flash drive with my Kindle Fire HD - conflicting advice everywhere. What is the custom rom you are using? Did you root the Kindle? Are you using something like the Nexus Media Importer? I don't have any Android devices so can't seem to buy anything from the play store. Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.

Sorry, have no experience with Kindle Fire HD. I'm still using with great joy first generation of Kindle Fire. With it, I'm using program named "stick mount" (requires root) and non-stock ROMs that have kernels providing OTG support. Anyhow, because of specific hardware capabilities of Fire's port, connecting flash drive is hit and miss: from my collection of cca 10 flash drives only 2 are working.

Ok, thanks for your reply. I'll keep experimenting until I find a workaround. I do hate to be defeated by a lump of plastic and metal although as I can't even download the Nexus Media Importer to give it a try, it's not looking too hopeful at the moment, grrrr! I was hoping not to have to root the Kindle but ..........

Hi Sue

Did you find a way to use with kindle fire HD ? I am going abroad and wanted to bring some films on a usb stick to transfer but finding comments on here that it won't work with HD.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

@chris
I don't have HD, but AFAIK custom roms are made for HD and I expect the same functionality as custom roms for Kindle Fire 1-st generation.

Hi. I have films on a external hard drive and I would think this adapter would work if i plug my external hard drive in to it. Would the Kindle Fire HD be able to reconize the hard drive?

There is small chance of success in external HDD reading, if the HDD is with external power supply and if Kindle custom ROM is capable of mounting larger volumes. You can try it.
