Surely this is the worst possible title for a cookbook? It bugged me throughout the time I was reading it, all through me trying out some of the recipes and I think it even affected the way I tasted the food. Anyhow...
If you can set the title aside (which I can't) this is a passable book of good quality `gastro-pub' type food; thick and filling dips, hearty pies and a few fiddly posh looking bits and pieces. I wouldn't consider this a family cookbook particularly, purely because of the amount/ price of ingredients needed and the amount of time required.
It's one I'd use for dinner parties, but my overwhelming impression was that these recipes would be best suited to a single banker called Giles, who's looking for something to do in his loft apartment on a Sunday morning.
