This review is from: A Great Feast of Light: Growing Up Irish in the Television Age (Paperback)
I picked this book up in an airport recently, and had to force myself to finish it. The author writes in a cliched manner with little grace or wit, and the impressions he gives of life growing up in Ireland at the time are less influenced by the coming of television, and more by exposure to small minded petty attitudes on the part of his family and neighbours. This "Angela's Ashes" approach to biography simply does not appeal when the writer is overflowing with middle class anxiety.
