This review is from: Bowers & Wilkins P5 On-Ear Headphones B&W - Black (Electronics)
I've been using in ear 'phones with my iPod for some years now and have tried a good number of decent quality - Shure, Etymotic, B & O etc. All very good to varying degrees and some more comfortable than others. And of course they are very 'portable'
But I have been advised to move to on-ear phones and so started to road-test a few....and stopped when I came to these little beauties. Beautifully constructed and designed (as you might expect from B & W, whose speakers were the very first I used in a hi-fi set-up nearly 43 years ago), made from genuine New Zealand leather and a mix of aluminium and stainless steel (no plastic here!)and a complete revelation in terms of sound. A flat response (kind of echoing the response I get from my Stax hi-fi speakers)with excellent, but controlled, bass and clear precise upper range, these phones demolish all the competition I listened to - even, and this I found surprising, Bose Quiet Comfort 3 with their active noise cancellation. And as for the bass-heavy Beats, these wipe the floor with them. I know some people like to accentuate the bass, especially when trying to 'kickstart' a naturally inferior iPod/MP3 source, but the P5's do this without the exhausting feel of the Beats. And I am now so enamoured of the commuting experience with these on my head, that I have given up reading or texting to concentrate on being reintroduced to my iPod playlist. An absolute joy!
