5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping depiction of the end of reason, 16 Nov 2012

It is too easy today to dismiss Hitler and the Nazis as some sort of aberration. Something that somehow appeared from nowhere, and couldn't happen again. To think of Hitler as a madman from the beginning who somehow seduced an entire nation. We know that is not the case, and must always remember that.
This film, however, covers the period right at the end of his life when reality had largely left him, and he was in a world that he wanted to inhabit, rather than the one around him. It brilliantly depicts his ability to focus perfectly rationally on something trivial concerning a member of his staff , whilst completely unable to comprehend the destruction and oblivion rapidly approaching.
If you know the story of the last few days in the bunker, then you will find this a gripping, generally accurate version of events. If you don't, you will watch with a growing sense of horror and disbelief. It's not fun entertainment, but it is certainly a great film.

I agree ... A stunning film, I saw it weeks ago and I still think about it now!
The acting is incredible and makes the standard American films of this genre look like they were made by children... Is shocking that over sentimental pap like Private Ryan gets such acclaim when this is superior in every way and far more shocking
